A stub Nib is cut straight across the top and is the easiest to use since it has somewhat rounded edges and corners. The tip is often held at a 90 degree angle to the writing line. The line variation between down and cross strokes will not be as distinctive as with the italics simply because of the roundness. But it is not as position-sensitive as an italic or oblique and so is generally more comfortable to use, especially for someone new to customized nibs.
